English Theatre Düsseldorf

English Theatre Düsseldorf is a professional English-speaking theatre company based in Düsseldorf and founded in 2018 by Rosie Thorpe (UK/DE) and Ilya Parenteau (USA).

„Our mission is to bring artistically excellent professional English-language theatre to local and international audiences; to provide meaningful international cultural experiences; to facilitate cultural exchange; and to foster arts appreciation and artistic expression in students of all ages.“

ETD is committed to supporting the already vital and growing international cultural landscape of Düsseldorf and NRW through the arts. We achieve our vision by collaborating with local and international artists; by programming a diverse season including classical and contemporary plays from various genres; and by empowering our community through theatre workshops and courses for adults, children and businesses.

In summer of 2022, ETD began an open-air theatre series called “Shakespeare am Rhein”. Set along the Rhine river, the beautiful Kaiserpfalz Ruins in Kaiserswerth provides an impressive backdrop for our Shakespeare productions, performed in their original language by professional International actors from all corners of the globe. Our aim is to make “Shakespeare am Rhein” a recurring and long standing Summer Event in the Düsseldorf calendar.
